Put a leash on your dogs harness in any precarious situation. One of these is in or near a parking lot or street. Many times we all get too comfortable which leads to complacence when wlking our dogs or going to the dog park. We will have a great time and head back to the car in the parking lot. We will ignore our instincts and thoughts of putting a leash on our dog because we gained false confidence or have become complacent. Any time you could see some sort of danger for your dog, you need to recognize those instincts and feelings and react positively and in protection of our dogs. This is just common sense, but we can get too comfortable with our dogs skills at times.
Put a leash on your dog when approaching any person or dog on trails. Do not let your dog go nose to nose with other dogs, even when on leash.
Choose a dog that really will work out for you. Too many choose the wrong dog. Energy levels is something to consider. Many people get breeds that are known for being super energetic. Alot of these people think a dog walk on a leash is all that a dog needs to get out that super energy. This is not OK or true. Another misconception is that a fenced in backyard is all a dog needs to get out its’ super energy. This is also not OK or true.
Only get as many dogs as you can really handle. This is complicated for several reasons. One is our entitlement of owning dogs.
